For Hajime Nitta (Nitta-san), owner and co-skipper of the Japanese yacht 1122 Trekkee, the 2025 Melbourne to Osaka Cup is the culmination of a dream 30 years in the making. Inspired by supporting a fellow Japanese entrant in the race three decades ago, Nitta-san has worked tirelessly to make this moment a reality. After purchasing 1122 Trekkee, a Class 40 yacht built for short-handed ocean races, he and his co-skipper, Sonosuke Noda (Noda-san), dedicated themselves to rigorous preparation, including extensive modifications and participation in races and over 6000nm of experience together including Palau-Okinawa and Okinawa-Tokau races
Nitta-san is confident in their synergy. He praises Noda-san, who has been part of the crew for 15 years, as the “best co-skipper” and a critical partner in their journey.
