Alive will be sailed by Duncan Hine and Glenn Myler. This Reichel Pugh 66 yacht has been successfully campaigned, winning the Sydney to Hobart in both 2023 and 2018, as well as the 2023 Brisbane to Hamilton Island Race, Bruny Island Race and blitz the fleet in teh 2014 ORCV Melbourne to Vanuatu race, finishing almost 5 days ahead of this closest competitor Jazz Player..
Alive features a carbon hull, furled sails, and a canting keel. It is a close sistership to Wild Oats 10, capable of reaching speeds of up to 19 knots.
Duncan Hine has been the skipper of Alive for the past 10 years, covering some 180,000 nautical miles. His experience spans not only races in Australia but also international events, including the Transpac, South Sea, and Vanuatu races, to name a few.
Glenn Myler is an experienced sailor who owns a beautiful Oceanis Beneteau 43, which he lives on. He sails it north during colder months and south when it’s warmer and has completed over 6,000 nautical miles delivering Alive.
Both Duncan, Glenn, and the boat Alive share Tasmanian origins, with the Derwent Sailing Squadron serving as Alive’s home club. Duncan and Glenn first met in 2018 while sailing on the Marten 49 Tilt in Hobart. Since then, they have raced double-handed on each other’s boats and cruised extensively in Northern Queensland.
After finishing the 2025 Melbourne Osaka Cup, Alive plans to continue on to the Southeast Asia racing circuit.
