Blue Moon II is an Adams 16.4 bought by father and son Ken and Tristan Gourlay. Between them, they have cruised the Med, Caribbean, North Pacific, with a couple of jaunts around the South Pacific and raced in the Launceston, Melbourne and Sydney Hobarts, with a line honours win racing double-handed together in the 2004 Melbourne to Launceston.

Ken was recognised in the 2024 King’s Birthday honours list with an Order of Australia for his services to sailing and charity, also sailed his 42ft Spirit Silver Edition single-handed around the world in 2006, pipping the 2001 record, making him the fastest and oldest Aussie to circumnavigate the globe. Along the way, he  raised over $100,000 for medical research into eyesight disorders and diseases in children.

Tristan Gourlay competed on Force Eleven in the 2018 Melbourne Osaka Cup.  It was this event that tempted Ken to come out of self imposed racing retirement however the desire for a bit more comfort and size saw the departure of their previous open 40 design yacht for the more spacious Blue Moon 2.
