Alongside the long road of preparation, for a few of our Sundance Marine Melbourne Osaka Cup entrants there’s also been a long voyage involved in order to get to the start line. Ceramco probably has the longest distance of anyone to travel and she’s still yet to face it.
Back at the start of December we reported with news from Garry and Cheryle that they were through the Panama Canal and would be on their way to Australia shortly. As it turned out, it wasn’t that simple.
Before setting off across the Pacific, there were a few jobs to be done and one of them, an issue with the auto helm, took a lot longer than anyone expected. What with the holiday season, parts having to be flown in from the US a number of times and trouble actually pinning the problem down, it’s taken up until only a day or so ago for everything to be finally ready.
Ceramco pulled away from the mooring in Balboa for the 8,000 Nautical mile journey to Australia on Friday evening and it’s just in the nick of time. Cheryle expects that it’ll take 5-6 weeks to do the crossing and then there’s all of the red tape to work through as Ceramco is imported into Australia. There’s a crew of 5 on board for this delivery passage and we’ll keep you up to date on how things are going as well as introduce you to the crew in a further post.
Despite the holdups, Garry and Cheryle have been determined all along to make it to the start line and although the time remaining is tight, they’re confident that they’ll have Ceramco there on April 1st for their start.

レース準備の長い道のりと同時に、サンダンス マリン メルボルン大阪カップの参加者の中には、スタートラインに立つために長い航海が必要なチームがあります。Ceramcoは、他のチームの中でもたぶん最も長い距離の航海を必要とし、現在もその過程にいます。
12月初旬にGary（以下ゲイリー）とCheryle（以下シェリル）からのニュースをレポートした時は、彼らはパナマ運河を通過してオーストラリアへはすぐに着くだろうと思われていました。しかし、状況はそれほど簡単ではありませんでした。
太平洋横断へ出発する前に彼らは終えておくべき作業がいくつか残っていました。そのうちの一つ、オートヘルムの問題は彼らの予想を大きく裏切って時間が掛かりました。ホリデーシーズンのせいでアメリカから空輸される部品は何度もトラブルに見舞われこの問題を縛り付けました。最終的に全てが揃うのに費やしたのは、ほんの1日前までだったのです。
Ceramcoは金曜日の夕方にオーストラリアへの8000マイルの旅に向けて係留していたバルボアを離れました。そしてこれはスタートに間に合うにはギリギリのタイミングです。シェリルは航海とオーストラリアに入国するための役所手続きに５、６週間かかると考えています。この回航には５人のクルーが乗り込んでおり、今後彼らがどのように日々進んでいくのかとクルーたちの紹介をレポートしていく予定です。
このような停滞にも関わらず、ゲイリーとシェリルは残りの時間は厳しいものの、スタートラインに立つことを断固として決心し、4月1日の彼らのスタートに間に合うことに自信を持っています。
