Rupert Henry and Greg O’Shea etched their names in history during the 2018 Melbourne Osaka Cup, sailing the 5,500nm race aboard the Judel Vrolijk 62 ‘Chinese Whisper’ in an impressive 21 days, 12 hours, 41 minutes, and 13 seconds.

As the 2025 edition of the race approaches, we caught up with Duncan Hine, co-skipper of the Reichel Pugh 66 ‘Alive’. With the team transitioning from a 12-person crew to a double-handed setup, Hine is quietly optimistic about their chances of making a serious run at the record. Adjustments and testing are well underway to refine sail management and other systems, ensuring ‘Alive’ and crew are ready for the challenge ahead.
With staggered starts, Alive will set off on March 30th—two weeks after the main fleet and four weeks after the first yacht, the S&S 34 Curious Roo.
