The Melbourne Osaka sister city relationship is one of the cornerstones of the Sundance Marine Melbourne Osaka Cup 2018 and as part of that relationship, the City of Melbourne hosted a Formal occasion on Wednesday evening.
Competitors and their partners were invited the the Melbourne Town Hall to meet public dignitaries and club officials. The competing teams were each presented with a large Battle Flag from the City of Melbourne and the Commodore of OHYC, Mr Norio Utsunomiya presented the City of Melbourne representative Councilor Liu with a letter of greeting from the Mayor of Osaka City. The Japanese consul General Mr Kazuyoshi Matsunaga attended the evening and in his address wished all those competing a safe and successful journey to Osaka.
Although this was one of the more official occasions in the pre-race events, the evening was casual and friendly, giving competitors an opportunity to meet officials, the race organisers and those who’ll they’ll be competing against.

レース参加者とそのパートナーはメルボルンタウンホールに招かれ、公式の高官やクラブ関係者に会いました。レーサー達にはメルボルン市とOHYC会長から大きな戦旗が送られ、宇都宮則夫氏はメルボルン市代表評議員のLiu氏に大阪市長からの親書を手渡しました。松永一義在メルボルン日本国総領事はこの夜に参加して全てのレーサーが安全で大阪への旅を成功させてもらいたいと演説しました。
これはプレレースのイベントの中ではより公式な場でしたが、この夜はカジュアルでフレンドリーな雰囲気で、参加者達に公式関係者やレース運営とお互いに競い合う良きライバルたちと知り合う機会を与えました。
