Crews from thirteen of our nineteen starters for the 2018 race along with family and members of the organizing committee, attended a first year reunion at SYC last night.
With many having flown in especially for the occasion, it was the first chance for most to catch up since finishing in Osaka exactly 12 months ago. A spit roast of beef donated by Rainbow Meats was served up alongside a great range of salads and Rod Smallman donated the wine for the evening.
Each competitor attending was given a fresh Osaka Cup cap to wear just in case their old one had been lost over the side. There were also special presentations to a couple of crews who’d missed out on things up in Osaka due to bad weather.
Hokko Yacht Club had sent down a well prepared video greetings featuring members from the whole club and all night video highlights of the entire race were played on a large screen. Force Eleven competitor Tristan wasn’t able to attend but a greeting from him somewhere in the Pacific was read out during the evening.
Many thanks to George and Rod for putting the night together and thanks also to Robyn, Sally, Nick and Neil for preparing the fantastic meal.
