The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has supported the Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race (M2O) every race since 1987.
We are delighted that HMAS Arunta was able to visit Port Philip to support the start of the 2025 race.
Whilst the adverse weather conditions postponed the planned race starting time the Arunta delayed its departure for a day to be available to sound the Ship’s horn for the race start.
Whilst on station in the proximity to the starting line, the Arunta displayed halyard flags signalling ‘FAIR WINDS’ on starboard & ‘Melbourne Osaka ‘on her port side.
The Ship’s helicopter flew over the fleet during the race start preparations.
M2O Chairman George Shaw & videographer Sal Hicks were invited on board to witness the race start.
Whilst on board, George presented a Melbourne Osaka Cup flag to the Ship’s Captain Commander David Clarkson and a Ronstan commemorative watch.
Commander Clarkson presented an HMAS Arunta commemorative shield to mark the occasion. This shield will go on display in the M2O cabinet at Sandringham Yacht Club.
