While we were all absorbed in the end of year races to Hobart, the Japanese entrants for the M2O were also getting their feet wet. Here is a run down of their progress to the start line:
Zero, with Katsuhiro Yamada and Masayuki Kobayashi have made landfall in Australia, and cleared Borderforce in Bundaberg on NYE. They have sailed non-stop from Chichi-Jima in the Ogasawa Group, a distance of 3,000 nautical miles. The qualifiers were welcomed into Bundy by Cheryle Rayson and Garry Golding who also aspire to do this great race. Garry and Cheryle are the proud owners of Ceramco, previously owned by the late Sir Peter Blake.
Not far behind, relatively speaking (!) is Trekkee. Her owner Hajime Nita and co-skipper Sonosuke Noda left Yokohama 20 days ago and have reached the Solomon Sea via the Bismarck Sea, navigating through the islands west of New Britain. Our third Japanese crew on Arcadia are also on their way to the start line in Melbourne, having departed their home base of Amami Island (Okinawa Group). Experiencing technical issues and then noticing water ingress in the anchor locker, the crew made an unscheduled stop in Legazpi (the Philippines) to investigate and make repairs. John Wilson and Joe Yamashita have now cleared the Philippines from Sarangani and are looking forward to making landfall in Queensland in the next couple of weeks.

Our fourth Japanese boat Jazz Player, has been recently purchased from Tasmania by its current owner Kayoko Nakano, who is seeking to have the boat delivered to Melbourne in the next few weeks.
