One of our overseas competitors in the Sundance Marine Melbourne Osaka Cup 2018 is Surfdude from Hong Kong. Since Steve Ho lodged his entry for the event, we’ve only caught up with him on one occasion in August last year, where he outlined his calendar for getting to the start line.

As planned, Steve competed a sailing event in Vietnam and then had Surfdude in Cairns late in 2017. She’s since been moved to Mooloolaba, where for the past couple of weeks she’s been up on the hard stand for some routine work.

Steve’s co-skipper for the Osaka Cup is John Bankart who has sailed twice in the Osaka Cup before. In 2003 John co-skippered with Brian Peterson on Maverick II and again in 2007 he raced with Itaru Matsunaga on Cocorin. John is a well know skipper and runs a sailing training business in Mooloolaba. He’s been overseeing the work on Surfdude over the past few weeks.

With all the work now complete, Surfdude is set to leave for a run down to Sydney on Feb 3rd. Steve and John will then head to Melbourne, completing their delivery as well as their qualifying passage prior to March 1. We really look forward to seeing them here for the start.
