Some brief communications yesterday with Jukka and John from Arcadia, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the race just prior to New Year. Arcadia was badly damaged in a storm in the first week of the journey South to the start. They made it as far as Chichi Jima and following basic repairs were expected to head back to Osaka. The latest news has them under way but they’ve headed west.
残念ながら新年を目前にレースから離脱せざるを得なくなってしまったアルカディアのユッカとジョンから昨日短い連絡が有りました。アルカディアは南に向かう航海の最初の週に嵐によって大きなダメージを負ってしまいました。彼らは父島まで行きましたが、修理の後には大阪へ戻る予定です。最新の情報では彼らは現在西に向かって航行中です。
From Jukka – “We managed to fix the worst damaged parts in Ogasawara (Chichi Jima). Due to wind and current, it was not possible for us to sail directly north towards Osaka, so we sailed west to Amami Oshima arriving on Friday.
ユッカ より。「私たちは小笠原にて、最も深刻なダメージ部分については修理することが出来ました。風と潮流のため、大阪がある北へ進めなかったので西へと航行し、金曜日に奄美大島に到着しました。
We had only a storm jib and 2 point reef on our damaged main but it was easy sailing with mostly northerly winds. Weather is expected to turn bad soon so we’ll stay here anyway for few weeks until a new heavy weather jib (that we planned to have delivered to Melbourne) arrives.
セールがダメージを負ったので、私たちはストームジブとメインセールを2ポイントでリーフィングし、北寄りの風を受けて容易に航行することが出来ました。天候が間も無く悪化しそうですが、メルボルンまで運ぶ計画だった新しくて重いウェザージブが到着するまでの数週間ここに留まるつもりです。
Still don’t know what was the issue is with our Bluewater Tracker and still trying to get the satellite internet antenna operational. It’s working but signal is always too weak to transmit anything.”
私たちのブルーウォータートラッカーのどこに問題が有ったのか、未だにわかリません。それから、衛星アンテナが運用出来るように調整中です。動作はしていますが、信号が弱くて何も送信出来ません。」
With a great deal of time allocated for the journey to Melbourne and then the race, Jukka and John have plenty of time before they need to be back in Japan. We wish them a safe journey home.
