Ceramco – Such a Shame

The journey for Ceramco with crew Garry Golding and Cheryle Rayson has been a tough one but finally it’s come to an end, with word coming through over the weekend that she will have to retire.

Right from the outset when they lodged their entry in the Sundance Marine Melbourne Osaka Cup 2018 last year, they knew that there were going to be numerous hurdles to jump. With their newly purchased boat being in the USA, with all the jobs that needed to be done to get the boat ready and then the trip across to the start line to make, there was a long way to go. But they persevered and every time an issue came up, the word from the duo was, ” Something’s come up but don’t worry, we’re still in The Race”.

So when we reported in early February that Ceramco was finally on her way to the start line, we all knew it was going to be tight  – but there was a big sigh of relief. An excited Cheryle, working hard at her business in Bundaberg, set about producing a News Letter on a regular basis, which kept a big group of followers informed. These followers were a mixed group, some boaties, others not and so Cheryle’s articles from week to week endeavoured to cater for her wide audience, with technical news about the trip and boat, bits of news about the crew and some educational items as well.

For those reading the news letter however, it could be seen the last few that things weren’t going to plan and so it probably isn’t a complete surprise for the regular readers to hear of Garry and Cheryle’s reluctant decision. Cheryle has been kind enough to allow us to publish this latest newsletter via the link below.

Picking up on the story at this point, you’ll probably have a few questions but I’m sure the full story of the trip will be available in due course. Regardless of knowing all of the facts, there’s some important information here that we think you’ll all be interested to read.

Commiserations Garry and Cheryle. Thanks so much for trying so hard and we wish you all the best for the future.
